Since 1978, APEC - Antwerp / Flanders Port Training Center plays a central role in the transfer of port knowledge from Flanders to the world. In all these years, the APEC standard seminars, tailor-made programmes and study visits have brought more than 9.000 people from 140 countries to Antwerp and Flanders ! Therefore the name APEC stands for much more than just a port training center, APEC operates as a window to the world, bringing people and expertise from all geographical corners of the planet closer to Flanders.
APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center is affiliated to the Antwerp Port Authority. Through short-term, practically-orientated and interactive courses APEC strives to offer the optimal transfer of knowledge on all current port-related issues. One of the main elements in the success of APEC is the cooperation between public and private port communities. This relationship is essential for a flexible working of the seminars and offers the candidates access to the rich expertise in the ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge, Ghent and Ostend.
The APEC standard training activities include 14 management sessions and seminars with a duration of 2 weeks each, covering a wide range of port related topics. Upon request, APEC elaborates specific tailor-made sessions, focussing on your exact needs and requests. APEC also organises tailor made study visits (1/2 day up to 2 days). Recently, APEC introduced a new concept: lectures abroad. An APEC expert then tackles specific topics during a short seminar session abroad.
Through its cooperation with the Flemish Community, the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation/Belgian Technical Cooperation (DGDC/BTC) and the Province of Antwerp, APEC has established a broad system of scholarships. The Flemish Community offers scholarships for the APEC programmes to candidates from all of its partner countries worldwide (see scholarship section for details). The sholarships enable candidates from all continents to find the professional course of their choice in Flanders. Candidates from partnercountries of the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation/Belgian Technical Cooperation can apply for a scholarship at the local representation of DGDC/BTC. The Province of Antwerp provides a number of scholarships for candidates from French speaking African countries.
In the realisation of high-quality seminars as our main objective, the following elements are predominant :
APEC seminars always focus on interactivity and discussion. There are not just teachers and students, but a stimulating dialogue is searched between the professional public or private port managers on the one hand, and their international colleagues on the other hand.
