By means of these recommendations, the energy supply security should be guarantied for the future. More than 300 different basic chemicals are produced in the Port of Antwerp. The Antwerp chemical industry has been able to develop into the biggest and most diverse chemical cluster within Europe thanks to the integration of industry, logistics and transshipment. The close co-operation between the different chemical producers and between the producers and logistics companies (co-siting), has resulted in an extremely energy and cost efficient production and freight handling. In addition, industrial companies continually invest in R&D thanks to close collaboration with leading research centres in Belgium.
