The specialised tank storage companies offer a comprehensive range of tank facilities for liquid bulk, with capacities ranging from 30 to 50,000 m³. The terminals handle all types of liquid bulk and gas, using specialised equipment such as carbon fibre tanks for storage of chemicals and petroleum derivatives, stainless steel tanks for sensitive substances, heated or cooled tanks, coated tanks, spherical tanks for gases under pressure, stainless steel reactors, fully automated storage for oil drums and IBC (intermediate bulk container).
When it comes to dangerous goods too, Antwerp offers specialised storage facilities that meet the strictest national and European standards for fire safety and firefighting, industrial safety and protection of the environment. The ventilated storage compartments are separated by fireproof partitions, there are foam and sprinkler systems throughout, and all equipment is explosion-proof. All floors are impermeable.
In order to prevent soil contamination, the warehouses are built to retain a sufficient quantity of liquids, so that spilled substances and extinguishing water are prevented from entering the environment in the event of a fire.
There are six companies in the Antwerp port area specialising in storage, handling and repackaging of plastic granulates. Bagged plastics are stored on pallets or in the many warehouses in and around the port, together offering a storage capacity of 300,000 m³ for granulates.
