Training

The port of Antwerp creates work directly for more than 62,000 people, ranging from harbourmasters to forwarders and dockers. All these employees help to keep the port functioning efficiently and maintain its reputation as one of the most productive ports in the world.

There are specific training courses for all these jobs. Below you will find a list of some of them:

OCHA: training centre for dockers

OCHA operates as a reception centre, but mainly offers specialist training for people to become dockers. It also provides ongoing training for people already employed as dockers, to ensure that the most recent legislation is known and applied by everyone. The centre has a permanent staff of instructors who give practical training. All of them are former dockers who have built up a huge fund of professional knowledge of hands-on experience, which they pass on to trainees. Engineers from the Health & Safety department also act as instructors. OCHA offers four types of course: basic training, specialist courses, courses aimed at a particular industry and courses for particular companies.
