APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre

APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre is an international training institute for port and maritime matters that focuses on the transfer of knowledge via standard seminars, tailor-made courses, study visits and lectures abroad. APEC courses are an ideal mix of theory and practice which allows port professionals to interactively fine-tune their expertise concerning port, maritime and logistics matters.

APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre is a sister company of the Antwerp Port Authority. Via short, practical and interactive courses, APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre teaches people most aspects of modern port operations. The collaboration between the public and private port authorities is key in this process.

APEC's offer and method is unique in Europe:

  • professionals only
  • interactive approach
  • ideal mix between theory and practice
  • focused on current challenges of every port professional
  • based on the Port of Antwerp's years of know-how and expertise

Standard seminars are organised twice a year and take 2 weeks. Examples: port management, Break Bulk Cargo, port security.

Tailor-made courses are organised on request. APEC draws up a comprehensive programme, geared toward the applicant's specific interests. Examples: organisation of port labour, port marketing, landlord-port and concession.

Study visits can vary from half a day to a couple of of days. The applicant chooses the agenda and different site visits. APEC provides the professional content and guidance. Here also the emphasis is on interactivity.

Lectures Abroad” or tailor-made courses in other countries are usually organised at the request of a foreign government or as follow-up of the seminars. For a whole week interested authorities are taught by teachers with public and private experience. Again, the APEC provides an interesting basic offer that can be further fine-tuned.

During the training, participants receive:

  • a transfer of skills and expertise through interactive discussions with professionals in the port sector
  • a balanced mix of presentations and related company visits
  • an understanding of operational aspects of maritime and port-related activities
  • professional networking opportunities

Through its cooperation with the Flemish Community, the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) and the Province of Antwerp, APEC has established a broad system of scholarships. More information on these scholarships is available on the APEC website.
