Integrated petrochemical companies

The port is home to the largest integrated (petro)chemical cluster in Europe. This high degree of integration and diversity throughout the value chain is unique in the world. The major refineries (Total, ExxonMobil, Gunvor Petroleum Antwerp) , the ATPC Bitumen plant and the three steam crackers at the port ensure the stable local availability of raw materials. In addition several lubricant production sites are present in the port area.

Antwerp is the perfect transhipment hub for chemicals with direct services to 1300 ports in North & South America, West Africa and the location of choice for the European market. Containerships of more than 22.000 TEU are handled on a regular basis.

Antwerp is known around the world as Europe's distribution hub. The port has its excellent connectivity with overseas destinations and the European hinterland, along with its strategic location close to the main European production and consumption centres, to thank for this.

A large number of connections via shortsea, inland navigation, road and rail guarantee a first-class connection between the port and the major (petro)chemical centres in Europe. In addition, the port offers an exquisite range of deep-sea connections to ports across the world.

Extensive pipeline network

Port of Antwerp owns and controls 720km of pipelines, 90% of which serve the chemical and petrochemical industry and its hinterland. Within the port area, more than 1.000km of pipelines are located, both from private companies as from Port of Antwerp.
