Dry bulk

The port of Antwerp handles a rich variety of bulk goods. There is a large storage capacity at specialist companies. The port's central location guarantees excellent connections to the hinterland.

Extensive and high-performing transfer capacity

The terminals on the waterfront offer sufficient possibilities for receiving capesize or panamax vessels. The ample bulk goods terminals, which are all trimodally accessible, offer a total solution for a great diversity of bulk goods, mainly fertilisers, minerals, coal, ores and steel scrap. There is also a place for grain, cement, wood waste and much more.

Sustainable goods flows

The port of Antwerp is Belgium's largest economic engine. We want future generations to be able to enjoy the prosperity and the many jobs that the port creates too. This is why we are building Europe's most sustainable port, reconciling economic, social and ecological interests. In order to reach this goal, we are focusing on attracting and embedding sustainable goods flows.

Focusing on sustainable goods flows and circular economy.

Recycled bulk as a raw material

These sustainable raw materials are increasingly taking over from the classical coal flows.

  • Wood pellets
  • Residual flows from agriculture as biofuels
  • Plastic recycling

Antwerp is a port with an eye for sustainability. is the only port in North-West Europe that can receive millions of tons of goods so far inland by ship, which means a substantially lower carbon footprint. This makes the port of Antwerp an ecologically responsible choice, as well as an economic one.

A cost-efficient distribution hub.

The port of Antwerp is more than a loading and unloading location for dry bulk goods, having at its disposal:

  • Specialist service providers: blending, liquefying, repackaging and preparation for transport
  • Specialist storage facilities
