On 7 June 2013, the representative organisations of the inland tanker shipping industry, the chemical and petrochemical industries as well as the tank storage industry together with the sea ports of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp and with the support of competent authorities of Belgium and the Netherlands, established the Steering Committee “Gaseous Residues of liquid cargo in inland Tanker Shipping” (GRTS).

The GRTS steering committee has agreed to develop practical guidelines for the degassing of cargo tanks of inland barges. The GRTS steering committee will work on the technical concept and the operational model for degassing of inland tankers. The GRTS steering committee will also put forward proposals for a possible regulatory framework supporting the application of the guidelines.
Participating organisations: the European Barge Union (EBU), the European Skippers Organisation (ESO), the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), the European Petroleum Industry Association (EUROPIA) and the Federation of European Tank Storage Associations (FETSA). The CCNR Secretariat will give support to this initiative.
