Containers and coils: a good match

Thursday 03 09 2020

Looking for a sustainable and reliable solution for its supply chain, the construction firm Knauf found a good partnership with the freight handler Zuidnatie. The inland navigation ship Dampezzo has been transporting both containers and coils between Terminal South and the ABES and Katoen Natie terminals since July. A major step forward for smooth inter-modal traffic at the port.

This new collaboration between Knauf and Zuidnatie will save a great many trucks on the road. The ‘Dampezzo’ also had 42 coils on board for its first transport voyage, alongside containers. Each coil weighs up to 25 tons, equal to a single truckload. The combination of coils and containers not only increases the efficiency of the transport, but is also a well-considered shift to a greener transport mode.

Zuidnatie and Knauf are planning to use barge transport on a weekly basis.
