New LCL reefer service from Seafrigo

Friday 12 02 2021

Agent Seafrigo is offering a new Less than Container Load (LCL) reefer service from Antwerp to New York. The new service will enhance Antwerp's key role in the reefer market.

Shipping via LCL can pose a challenge for perishables. Seafrigo has over twenty LCL reefer services from Northern Europe to destinations all over the world (USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Panama, Costa Rica, Japan, China, etc.), now joined by the Antwerp-New York line.

The new service will ship all sorts of foods, including Belgian chocolate and biscuits. A large volume that leaves Belgium and opting for sea freight instead of air freight will reduce transport costs. The transit time from Antwerp to New York is short: eleven to fourteen days. Goods are consolidated after arrival in a refrigerated warehouse. From there, they continue their journey to their final destination. Seafrigo ships cargo monthly, and they hope to expand the number of shipments and destinations in due course

Antwerp, your preferred perishables port

The port of Antwerp saw strong growth in traffic of this type of goods in 2020. The growth confirms Antwerp's efforts as the leading port for perishables in Europe. Short transit times and rapid distribution on European consumer markets mean that shipping companies operating in the reefer market are increasingly choosing Antwerp as their first European port of call. The port also offers many added-value activities: cold stores, quality control, ripening, sorting, (re)packaging, order picking, labelling, to name a few; Antwerp is a one stop shop!
