Both Antwerp Port Authority and its Port House headquarters received awards this month. Antwerp Port Authority was declared "Public Body of the Year," while Port House won the award for "Best Refurbished Building" at the renowned MIPIM Awards 2018 in Cannes.

With the distinction of "Public Body of the Year 2018" the initiative-takers EY, De Tijd/L'Echo and BNP Paribas Fortis expressed their recognition and appreciation for efficient, innovative public bodies that benefit companies and private citizens alike. Antwerp Port Authority was praised for its progressive, change-oriented process that that it launched last year.

With this process we aim to make the Port Authority and its employees more flexible, so that change is no longer seen as a threat but as an opportunity. Innovating and collaborating are crucial for this, both inside and outside the company, forming the basis for our future”,declared Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Antwerp Port Authority.

Port House for its part won an award presented by one of the largest real estate fairs in the world. The MIPIM Awards focus on real estate projects that have aroused interest around the world. The new Port House is a dynamic workplace for the Port Authority's many employees. The architect Zaha Hadid was faced with a complex challenge in order to create a meeting place for contacts in the Antwerp port community: she had to preserve the historic fire station – a listed monument – while integrating it into the new building. The prize for "Best Refurbished Building" demonstrates that she succeeded in this task.
