Test with 5G in the port

The Minerva 5G network will improve the speed, reliability and security of digital applications of Port of Antwerp, and the local authority, police and fire service. Technology firm iSea is currently testing and developing the network in collaboration with Ericsson.

The technology can support the port in relation to shipping, security and ecology, by speeding up and enhancing the development of digital apps but also livestreaming and drones via this network. It is also ideal for developing 5G applications for computerization, logistics, safety, and security, which require a high network speed. "This 5G trial network will cover the entire port. As a Port Authority, we're playing a pioneering role in the digital transformation of the port ecosystem, therefore laying the foundation for new jobs in the future," says Erwin Verstraelen, Chief Digital and Innovation Officer of Port of Antwerp.

Minerva is a private network, meaning that it is not dependent on public providers and is therefore better protected against outages and overloads. Minerva will also ensure optimum coverage within the partners' operational area, based on end-to-end European technology.
