The port of Antwerp ensures fast and efficient goods transport thanks to its multimodal links, which now include a weekly inland navigation service by Swissterminal. Feeder ships connect the Swiss Rhine ports with various deep sea terminals in the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam twice a week.

Inland navigation is the most common mode of container transport at the port of Antwerp, accounting for 34% of it, or as much as 42% if you include all goods flows in the port. In order to increase growth further, Port of Antwerp is constantly working on new, innovative projects for the inland navigation sector.

Swissterminal is offering a new barge connection between Basel and Birsfelden and the port of Antwerp from December 2020. In addition, the existing rail connection from Swissterminal between Antwerp and Basel - Frenkendorf and Niederglatt will be improved from January 2021: it will be switched from an indirect service (via Neuss) to a direct service.

Last summer, we announced it loud and clear: the Single Window for Inland Navigation is on its way! Since its development, various software suppliers and inland shipping operators have extensively tested this new platform, and we are preparing for an official start-up on 4 January 2021.
