The Port House, a home for an international port

The Port House, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, is an architectural masterpiece, befitting an international port such as Antwerp. The headquarters of the Antwerp Port Authority is without a doubt one of the eye-catchers of the Antwerp skyline. Inside, the building is also breathtaking thanks to a fascinating line pattern on every floor, and dazzling panoramic views.

In order to prevent and limit the further spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Port House is only open to professional visitors, as long as the current measures concerning Covid-19 are in force.

The Port House consists of two entwined main volumes: the former fire station, a protected replica of a former Hanseatic house, and a brand new volume with complete glass façade. The office space is organised according to The New Way of Working: workers do not have a fixed desk, but choose a workplace depending on their activity (telephone, concentrated work, meetings, etc.).

In 2016, the Port House received a ‘Very Good’ according to the BREEAM standard, an international sustainability label for buildings. This is due, among other things, to innovative techniques such as a borehole-energy-storage system that heats and cools the building, water-free urinals and motion detection for minimal water consumption, and optimum daylight control to reduce the need for artificial light.

Visit us during office hours and discover the impressive atrium with its large aerial view of the harbour.
